Saturday night in starbucks

Me and daughter bonding. Coolio. Me tall black ameriano, iced water, skinny peach and raspberry muffin. I spy Kate Arden in the Starbucks. Purchased two small gifts for Mrs C.

Saturday 2nd day of summer

Its all too much I expect the news tonight to be full of horror stories, A&E will be full of sunburn victims, trains gring to a halt. Summers in the city.
This boy likes the heat, but I don't sleep well in it, wake up early and mess about making Access databases accessible on line. The day gets worse as I start burning my first ISO image of the debian distro - sad innit.
hee hee.
I am well up for it Linux for nowt from nowt. How do you say it is it LIE nux or Lynn Nix (clearly Toms sister) obviously he was some nort of nordic dude.
Nurse dont come to late, England do well at cricket then blow it again. Another wickets gone says Jean, will Freddie sort us out.
A stroll down to the fruit shop makes a change from the garden and the computer room. White skinned nectarines 40p each or 3 for a quid.

Friday afternoon

Picked up mother ate lunch with her then its off to town, via rathbone. I stop at st johns car park to et her out then ally and I spit up. I go off to the building society v.nice. Unusually helpful. Then to.WHS where they have. Bag packing and a bucket collection, ocally organised by MIND. Labour provided by M+S. Thinks MIND almost as low profile as WLSinfo. Then off costa coffee in waterstones stopping only for a big issue.
Shopping for Jeans Prezzies, successful. Then its off to Rathbone pick up some forms off the helpful Pauline. Back home and summer has occured I strip the waist and burn witihn 30 mins tops stuff.
Colin comes round to up date on house position, Tea is a prob, chicken we defrosted is not right. I am off to Somerfields, a malady has taken over the store. Comes from employing embryos on the till, and incompetents as managers. It has also spread to the hardware and only one in five items is successfully scannned. Sllooooooooooooooow. The supervisor lady thinks 5pm Friday is best time for her to do naff all but stand manning a perfume promo. The embryos on the tills aren't happy. Nor are the grisly customers. Not good, not big, not clever. It gets gruesome - I score some juiceand two chicken tikka masalas on last day knock down. I combine these with M&S onion bhajinaan. This may be the best indian pre-packed bread I have ever tasted. I decline to look at the nutritional content realising by the taste it may be not be the best news.
After tea its off to Beas. Back home and enjoy Men of honour good film for a channel five gig.

Friday.

Firm offer on the house of emily. Several grand down. Ring them and find there is a better offer in there already. Get two postal deiveries. Hmmmm still waiting for several letters. No fez tickets yet decide to hassle em. Coolio.
Nice letter from vineeta stating what I have achieved and not to let the blackdog bite. Good stuff and much appreciated. Try on the new threads, jeans at 42" waist feel fine., shirts at large on a little tight wil consult Jean later. Trousers feel long but aly assures me that's the fashion, hmmmmm.
So plan nurses, mums, town, building society.

Bogus Petronius Quote

Bogus Petronius Quote Oft quoted in the change management workshop gig, made me smile.

Thursday

Last night tested my parenting skills to the full. Ally is cleverer sharper and brighter than me. She is uncannily similar to me too. Shocking stuff and it reminds me what a difficult time adolescence is/was.
Then to bed and morning comes round too soon. Leave the girls sleeping whilst I idle. Must ca in at mums she is upset, her new 3 piece suite was delivered yesterday. Its the wrong colur but apart from that.........the admitted the problem and are gonna put it right but it wil take 9/52. She aint chuffed. Off to Rathbone to get two forms signed by payroll. Picked up later following phone call. Need to go to the Swan to purchase some cheap holiday threads from Tesco. Half pay is looming (glooming) on the horizon. Waiting in the doctors gives me time to think. Deep joy. Kickstart myself back to the gym - need to sort that. Afternoon, off to asda to buy some holiday threads.
Back home to salmon and prawn pasts and talking to Charlie and Tom planning Marathon walks and cycle ride in aid of WLSinfo. Cool.

Wednesday - Out to lunch

D/N then out to lunch with Sam the Everton fan - a keen blog watcher. Top time at Greenbank. Soup and prawns. Sam reveals her new passion of ebay. Back home and chillin. Jean and her mum have been for the 2.99 carvery at the Greenhills in Allerton. Its surprisingly good despite being full of old people. Ally goes off to see Thunderbirds she likes it,
I want to see it. We go off to Whiston to pick her up chilling in the evening. I have a sore throat and snotty nose.

News from the boy - from Jon former PA of this Parish

Hello everyone

How r u all???

We have left the nightmare and are now in paradise. And we dont say that lightly.

Delhi was very hard, and we were thankful that we had tickets to Leh. The flight was fantastic, and the view over the himalayas as we came into Leh was perhaps the mopst amazing spectical we have ever seen. It was truly breathtaking. The problem was we weren't allowed to photograph it, even from the plane, because all this area is very militarised.

Leh is a beautiful city set in a valley within the himalayas. Its a very peaceful and tranquil place inhabited by decendants from Tibetan Budhists, mixed with pockets of other religions; making it a very spiritual and harmonious place. I\There are lots of tourists here, but you dont really notice it as the place is so peaceful. Although Leh is very green, the view of the mountains and glaciers is spectacular from whereveer you find yourself.

Since we came we have done nothing but chill out. The reason is due to the altitude sickness which affects people in different ways. We sometimes suffer from strong headaches and shortnerss of breath, but we just sit and chill till we start to feel better. The good thing is were really starting to feel much better from today.

Were planning to stay here for about 3 weeks, but during this time we intend of going on a few treks. This saturday were planning on going on a jeep trek to Nubra Valley - which means we pass the highest road in the world at a staggering 5606m above sea level.

Were sorry we can't write more often because the internet connection is pretty slow. and its quite expensive. But please keep writing to us because its nice to receive yr emails and know whats going on.

Lots of love

Tuesday - Prepare for the Celtic Invasion

Audrey and her husband Chris touch down today on their whistle stop weightloss surgery tour. Nice one - cant wait. Early lunch as going to tesco straight after DN. Go to to Mums and she has been shook up by an old caller in the middle of the night. Turns out to be a local drunk knocking on the door about 10.30pm. My mother is, what is politely described as a"a poor historian." We prefer to say that things have been through the scrambler. A strange language misinterpretation device in which things get confused. She started going on on about "wet sides" last week, things became clearer when it was realised she meant web sites.
Anyway she is clearly feeling lonely and vulnerable so by way of diversion and escapism we take her to Morrisons in Belle Vale. I had not had the pleasure of shopping there before and was, frankly, impressed. Bigger than Tescos, an altogether more pleasant shopping experience.
Chris and Audrey arrive sometime in the afternoon. They have got lost getting to a hotel so turn up here. I answer the door with a mouthful of Danish and a look of astonishment. In shock, I leave the cooking, they wanna get booked in somewhere so we trek up Queens drive in Convoy and get them booked into the stag and rainbow travel inn motel lodge thing.
Back to the house finish making bog element of pasta bog. Go and pick up Auds and Chris having a great time meal goes well pasta bog and apple crumble then out into garden for photos which will appear later. A bloomin good night.

Monday comes round - if a little late

I surface at about 10.15 and frankly feel better for it. A darn good kip. Off to D/N margaret on duty. Very good interaction. Pick up essentials at Tesco. Back home and dodder about. Frozen chilli for tea, is it me or does freezing it improve the flavour?? A walk in the evening, rounded off with some beer watching the increasing implausible waking the dead.

Hi Everyone

Arrived in Israel no problem, and have adjusted to life quite easily. Only problem is the weather - its too damn hot How I'm going to cope in India is anyone's guess - although apparently the Himalayas (where I'll be for the first month or so) really isn't that hot. Were flying this friday, first to Delhi then travelling north immediately to the Himalayas.

I just wanted to say hi and to also make sure I had everyone's email addresses correctly before we go.

Stay in touch. I'll probably send a few big emails to everyone whilst travelling and then just stay in touch with personal emails to whoever wants to stay in touch with me..if any of you actually want to of course.

Take care

Jon

Hi everyone

Just to tell you all that we've arrived in delhi without any problems. The flights were very good and everything went to plan. We landed in Delhi at 6am and came straight to a guest house. Or thats what we thought we were doing.

The bloody taxi driver stopped at a tourist office and gave us no choice but to go in. The agent was very friendly and after our long trip we didn't have our guards up as we should. Next thing he was trying to convince us to swap our plans from Ladach in the Himalayas and go to Kashmir instead. We said we'd think about it and next thing he came into the taxi and drove us to a guest house. Thankfully the guest house is still quite nice and has worked out at 600 Rupees - which is more than we should pay but ok seeing we were being taken for a ride.

Of course we were expecting all this but after the long journey it was hard to steer away from the inevitable. Anyway, so were here in the guest house writing this - we have our bags, everything is fine, we have air-con that works...and best of all we leave in 4 hours to go to Leh as planned.

We had been told that Delhi was a hard city so we thought we knew what to expect. The car journey from the airport was truly amazing. On one side of the road you see old looking buildings - as expected - and on the other u see a small piece of concrete looking land with a mixture of animals and people living in what can only be described as squalour. And then u just see the most bizarre things...monkeys, cattle walking on the road, drivers completely ignoring the red traffic light. Just bizarre - but fascinating at the same time.

But then we left this afternoon after some sleep to explore. Actually we knew where we wanted to go - it was just hard getting there. As soon as we started to walk anywhere u have people coming up to you offering to show u the way. We soon learned they're all trying to take u to a tourist office where they get commission if u organise something there. So we soon also learned to tell them politely in Indian (1 nice guy taught us the lingo) to bugger off. And it works. Kind of.

So after not getting anywhere fast we decided to spend the remainder of our time in Delhi in the luxury of our air-con room watching MTV indian style - very funny. And here we are, happy that were here, even happier were going straight up north in 4 hours. That was the best thing we did buying the tickets to Leh b4 we came. Now we can say goodbye to Delhi, for now, and perhaps come back when we dont look like obvious targets to one and all. Not that we've left yet so maybe its a good idea not to get too happy just yet.

So were here, safely, and looking forward to what lies ahead. For now take care

Jeanette still pleased, going well - home via a quick tesco. Rest up. Then tesco, drop compact flash at Ruth and Pauls they are off to Portugal tomorrow, drop Ally at mums. Back home then off to town with Mike and Jane. Eat in the other place. So the victuals

Mike mixed starter of humous, tapenade and guacamole followed by skate wing and blackbutter with saute spuds
Me chicken liver parfait with sweet brioche followed by skate wing and blackbutter with saute spuds
shorts and a bottle of house white
round it off with a mix of ice creams and four spoons strawberry, choc, vanilla, ginger, cointreau and orange, rhubarb and custard, and honeycomb.
Top stuff
The down to the dock - big top - see Kath Percival ex jobbing podiatrist, and Ali and Naum Butt, feel slightly ashamed when people tell me how good I look, and I am still off sick.
Seems we missed the first support act as a policy - arrive in to the arena to two geezers playing pachobel to a backing tape on fiddles. Then a 30 min break.
That is a long 30 mins.
Bryans announcer says he has cancelled some shows, but really wanted to do liverpool. So we are getting a short gig.
The fans are happy the toons are good, his voice aint right, the tshirts aint worth 15 squid, but I enjoyed, Mick dont seem sure but the girls are buzzing.
Top moments,Havana moon, smoke gets in yer eyes, Avalon, Slave to love, Both ends burning, Love is the drug, lets stick together. Then an early dart back to ours for a wee and a drink. True fans not dissapointed but I aint so sure.

Up to date

Its Friday am and I am up to date deep joy. Waiting in the doctors waiting room, deep joy

Good news from Jeanette

Things are looking up, the wounds have improved. We are now just laying on, not packing the wounds with aquacell. Progress indeed.
Meet kim in starbucks for lunch - just in time despite my recent erring to tardiness
Back home via Tesco where I acquire ready meal goodness for Tea. Kieran arrives at the crucial moment of serving. A scantily clad jean places a pasta chicken bake, ham and mush (I love it when caffs do that on menus) tagliatellle, and a southern fried chicken for ally. He has generously arrived with a sampe of the library goodies. Which I snaffle, he senses the haste a jean communicayes a reverie of despair from kitchen through the good offices of the microwave dinger. Dinner despatched almost on the hoof its away to the Glaxo for Ally and I Jean to follow later. Top stuff. Get to the centre and tonights caretaker is Gerry a bear of a man, from St Lucia. A good turnout and as usual it passes all too quickly. Back home and chill.

Wednesday Ally goes to town

I'm off to see District Nurse - Margaret always a good chat. modd is variable - must admit isolation beginning to get to me now but loath to seek chemical assistance again. Will consult with Doctor Frank.
Tired in the afternoon and loll about not doing much. In preparation for an outing to Culcheth to see Mary and John Sister and Bro in Law. Good night was had by all with an alfresco lasagne.

Two minutes late for Nurse

Every other day wouldn't have mattered - today it does. Have to wait 30+ mins. Still own fault. In to Tesco and pick up some provisions and prescription for Jean. Back to house. Lunch and dont chew chicken properly end up being sick. Quite exhausted by that - not good. Make a pan of chilli for T tonight and freezing. Sad news from Leicestershire a guy 4 weeks post op has died. Ithas sent a shockwave through the community on WLSinfo. Though we know the stats this is the first reported UK mortality we are aware of. Words arent enuff. Several pre-oppers are understandably twitched.Colin comes in the middle of the event and wants to talk house details. Sorted. Talk to a few people and turn PC off and enjoy 55degrees north. Good addressing of race issues.

Tickety boo

Kieran had one today and I feel duty bound to try one. Then back to the chinook coz jk don't want to say tickety boo. 5 mins at the bar and I can sense irritation

Ship and mitre lbras

Liverpool bariatrics real ale society - meeting at 8.30. Its unusual
for me to be in this fine watering hole at this time and fuly concious.
Usually started here at 5 when based in hammy house. Ending up being
picked up by jean at 8.30 or making my own way home in a cab.
A pint of chinook 1.85 4% that will do nicely.

Then ticketyboo then back to the chinook. Afine night with JK laffing like a pair of gooduns. Two old gits postoppers, doing well.

A sense of occaision

I look into blogger and note with interest that I have made 999 posts. And this then will be the momentous 1000th. I feel a certain sense of pride and nostalgia. When I reflect I think how far have I come in the nearly two years since I set out on this journey. My blog led a couple of other people to blog, helped a few in the early days by providing an account of the early days of weight loss surgery. It has provided a look into my life for several people and helped us keep in touch with a few sould strewn around the globe. It is barred from view in Communist China. (poor Sandra).
It has become a repositry of general mutterings and rants. Life in the surgery field has become somewhat quiet.
The website I set up - has become a success and huge source of support and enjoyment to quite a few people. Top stuff.
My health over the last two years - whilst overall my life expectancy has greatly improved I aint been doing too good.

Preceding post typed in waiting area

I was waiting for the dietitian. I like waitng in NHS waiting rooms, they a re a mix of life. The notices amuse. often I sit somewhere Iused to be the manager, and see notices from 10 years ago stilll there. Wouldnt have happened in my day. We had a chairman of the Health Authority who would personally inspect notice boards and remove the out of date offending item with a deft of his walking stick. We didn't have MRSA, the conditions were appalling, but our notices were up to date. Jenny the dietitian is as charming as ever. I am doing things write and have gained 10lbs. That'll do nicely. I skip Sainsburys and the the Tesco shopping arrives at 4.30. Nice bloke, if cheesed off, vanbroke and one driver off sick. him no happy. He was called in off his holidays. Between us we cook salmon and prawn pasta - v. nice. Pleasant evening second part of waking the dead which should have had a warning at the start. Or am I getting softer.
Wasn't sure if was great or crap....it was nowhere in between.

Monday - Tesco woes

Day starts fairy well got up early for me 8.30 ish. Get quite a few things sorted. Parcel arrives, delivered by Ian Cooper, a boy last seen as a surly youth in the Boys Brigade. He had several brothers as I recall. He is divorced and getting married again. Felt rather unusual in still being on first wife. Was trying to work how old he must have been in comparison to me. Don't have a clue. Impossible.
Tesco delivery booked for 9-11 slot. No show by 11.55 website shows status of my order as "delivered" - nah. I know that aint true. I ring the helpline and after a long answerphone message am put through to a customer service manager - George. I have a later appt today at the practice. Will tomorrow do says george no says ken. That's tonights tea. He resolves by agreeing delivery at 5.30 and refund of delivery. Polite and went out of his way to sort it. He will never last. Started my first foray into the chicklit genre. PS I love you, currently number 2 in the charts. Recommended by friend Kim. Its a moving tale, ally has already expressed an interest. Off to practice, margaret and tony. See frank blood test all marginal lows - repeat in a month. I tell him I am whacked yes he says that's what I would expect. Fair enuff frank, tells me to be more patient. Hmmmmmm. Off to greenbank for lunch and then up the drive to walton.

Sunday continued.

A fine lunch we skiddaddle back home. We enjoy further holiday frenzy when colin and hannah come round. Colin is doing a sterling job helping us selling nannies house. We enjoy waking the dead with trevor eve and barb off the royle. Thought some of the special effects were a bit ott. Still very pleasant.

Sunday lunch out

Lazy start for me. Ally out to parade as she thought her mates were getting a girl guide gong. I sit and strugge with an unco-operative broadband connection. We venture off to Ruth and Pauls for a fine unch. Bea and Alan and a med student called jenny. Intereting girl wants to be a GP. We start getting in a hoiday frenzy.

Aerial photograph of the village of Balmaha

Saturday must be Borders

We booked the shows for the fez. I'll post the links when I get in. Have to say their e-commerce solution was impressive. Still they are banging out a cool million tckets for the fez. Works well and tells me it'll be sorted in the next 7 days. Cool, coincidentaly been emailed by laurence promoting his pre fez gig at the unity next week. Don't want to spoil the fez so won't be going. Great mate me. But I would heartily commend any blog reader to give it a go.
Me and Ally shoot to tesco, and she thinks she suckered me into a new mobile. Cods. I had cunningly planned it all along. Then its off to Borders which is crammed with young lovers and screaming kids. I feel tempted to tell the youngsters to be careful look what might happen. The scal count is off the index today. Pink clothing and bared midriff. How can starbucks run out of cakes. Don't they have sophisticated just in time ordering. No this is Liverpool home of top quality customer service. You want to buy a cake. Which planet are you from? Do you know I sometimes wonder.

Jons house on Queens drive

Jon lives in a posh house on a busy road. Well its his dads. He says its fine except they often get people, usually tourists looking into the garden. Well I drove past and today there was two blokes stood there looking in the garden, not tourists but clearly having a good long stare. I'll look for the number and next time you are in the area check it out.

Perimenopause

Perimenopause not a detective but Jeans attempt to up the ante in the my illness is worse than yours stakes. We have had a scary week with worrying about her being ill. Then relief, now this. She is scary only to be approached with a chair and a packet of custard creams. Any chance of my hopes for a quiet life are I am afraid long since gone. Between and the angelic cherub has taken up residence in the back bedroom - frankly I have no chance.
My memory is clearly detiorating, and my irritability is fearsome. My real fear is that an argument will start in this tinderbox there will be a murder and the murderer wont remember where he or she left the body. Deep joy.

Saturday and a reflection on a week.

Well I seem to have got from Monday to Saturday without blogging. It isnt good. So a summary
In no particular order.....
Sorting out Nannies estate
D/N's each day
Lunch with Caroline at Greenbank
Lunch with Kim at Starbucks
Visiting mum
Went to Daves - scored his old PC which I got working but keeps crashing and to be honest I aint sure why - though just writing that gave me anew idea.
Spoke to all my aunties and uncles
Got an offer on Nannies house - intend to accept - so a solicitor beckons.
Got in a holiday frenzy.
Boy Jonathon left work.
Emailed Dave who left the team.
Janet is leaving.
Hmm - people trying to tell me something.
Jack and his wife came to cut the grass.
Lady from Childwall Cof E came to visit I am still on their sick list.
Went to craig the chemists (pharmacy) twice - cool dude on Allerton road.
Spoke to Mickey Browne.
Phoned Phil
Didn't learn to touch type.
Dictated letters and Lisa typed them up - for which I am eternally grateful.
A woman called Helen animated some pictures of me. ( I may post one for your amusement).
Still mskes me laugh out loud
Got to today -
post a letter
Take Ally to the bookshop
Sort food
Do a Tesco Online shop
Await Margaret
Fix Allys PC -
And probably a host of other domestic trivia
PC repair is an interesting if frustrasting business. Nursing is so much easier - people can tell you more about whats wrong. Hardware and Software seem to conspire to work against you (better up my medication).
I think about my future as a student at Sheffield - my inability to complete two side of A4 worries me - doesnt bode well for the dissertation.

Mondays man

Mess about sorting nannie banks affairs make a couple of calls then its off to the d/n margaret and tom a student from the jmu. Usual routine then off to Tesco pick up a pizza margherita for ally. Leave the car at tesco and a trot over to Craigs pharmacy across the road. Craig is the dns recommended pharmacist. Turns out I know him from the pct. He sits on the clinical governance subgroup. Nice guy. Stroll back to tesco then on to greenbank for lunch. A delicious carrot and coriander soup followed by prawns. I bumped into jane nursey friend of veronica. With her two mates, one of whom has has major surgery.

Thats a lie its hayzee fantaysay john wayne is big leggy. Darn MP3 tags.
I am of course always at least one day behind. Daily pilgimage to mather Avenue to witness the packing of the belly then offski. Chugged back home for big time rest. Then its off to blood clinic to get me battery of tests done. Mum has agreed to meet me in the caff afterwards. Unfortunately there are two caffs we each spend an hour sitting in the wrong one. Ho hum. Get home lot later than planned but she has had a result with her foot man and he is given her new shoes. I was a bit worried that since Nannine Banks (Emily) passed away mums seems to be wearing her orthopaedic footwear. Hey there must be a fality foot resemblance but I dont think its a cool move. They used to try each others glasses false teeth etc. Nah not good.
Home to Jean and Ally secure tea then off to Beas.
Friday night Colin comes round and its our scotland sojourne.

Thursday

Start the day early off to see Frank. GP not barber. Told me off for doing too much and told me to rest more. Frustrated in extremis. Top up scripts. Am pleased to announce my vioxx has been discontinued after some 2years on that and my years of analgesia for arthritis. Vioxx is a potent expensive med without the cosnstipating effects of opiates and is gut protective. The thought of no more arthritis meds is a real victory. Back home and to bed under docs orders. To get up again at 11.30 to get ready to go to dn. Another landmark in my recovery. Forgot to mention dropping into Tesco for first visit of day. Margaret is on duty. Spose an update of wounds is required. Two where the drains were both getting cleaned and packed with aquacell. Sorbsan absorbent pad applied then tiele. 3rdwound at top on staple linen where the staples burst. That is cleaned then mepore is applied over aquacell. The whole caboodle is then mefixed in. Forgot to mention Frank said I had peritonitis, on reflection I knew I did just peeved I have missed a vital dramatising opportunity. Shucks. Still just have to slap it on big time.
Margaret is as amusing as ever and comments how svelte I look. Svelte, moi? She says its the first time she has seen me dressed, which must be a shock and relief at the same time.
Off to starbucks to meet kim catch up the latest and am cheered up. Enjoy a chiclken salsa pannini delicious for an under 5% delight. Then off to Tesco, pick up script. Get home go to bed. Jean and ally come in. I. Go get ruth. And my mum, the Brownes arrive and its showtime. First of all its off to hope street, 2 tomato basil soups, 1 salmon terrine, 2 duck confits. 1 grillled mullet and 4 honey roast belly pork. Delish. We are actually in the other place. Fine stuff.
Then its off to the summer pops to see Jools Holland. Top gig, I like a bit of big band sound, most enjojoyable get home and am absolutley whacked.
