Private Eye :: home

Private Eye :: home We used to subscribe then we lapsed. Occaisioned about a copy in Tesco. Doing the rounds - the column about the NHS can often bring a smile. This week they refer to the Health Secretary as John "oh F*** not Health " Reid. That makes me chuckle.
Meanwhile playing with mozilla and having fun.

Better after a kip

Still aint right but feeling better. Grab a couple of hours and feel better. Get a wash.
Jean and I laff reminiscing about 60's ice creams. Which may lead to some mad googling later.
Off to Mothers and cheer her up she don't like bank holidays.

11a and the DN aint been yet. 1145 and she's away - nice lady. Wound by my belly button looks well strange, my perspective dont help. Jean who has a clearer view says instead of just going deep it goes up ( as in towards my head) nice..... She packs a lot of gubbins in there.

Fell sick and cant be bothered to get washed. Avoiding doing things I know need doing. - not good.
Ally off to see Harry Potter thing this pm.

The rest of Sunday

Have the sleep and feel better - sort a sense of sick boy duty done. Must admit I am getting heartily sick of food. Just feel a bit stuffed and not like much. I wonder how much is down to the antibiotics.
John Mary and Mum show up about 6.30 nice visit mum looking better and has lost a bit of weight. She is ill really but I suspect she hasn't had time to be really sick whilst looking after her mum. Mary signs our postal vote papers - I shall refrain from moanin about that fiasco here. After they leave a casual walk for Jean and I - we reach number 70 tonight - not far I know but I am trying to be restrained. Still planning to do 5k in September (probably unrealistically).
Colin arrives and he helps by witnessing mums signature on the probate form so all should be moving well in that direction. I still have paperwork to sort on that front - next week.
We confirm a green light on us goin to Normandy - that is Jean, Me Ally, Hannah and Colin. Dover Calais then somewhere in Normandie. Thats all we know. Eat our evening meal far too late.
Not much on telly and guts feel a bit wrecked in the evening. Sit and read poopy fiction quietly.

mozilla.org - home of mozilla, firefox, thunderbird, and camino Becoming a true geek a download Thunderbird a news reader which allows me to plumb the depths of usenet beyond the sanitised offerings on Google groups - which is all very nice but a bit too squeaky clean.

Sunday gets interesting.

I rise about 8.20 I chill downstairs, two cups of tea and the digestion is sorted. Ally is up before Jean, District Nurse is a bit later than yesterday. I get a call from a cousin who has been talking to me mum. About Tuesday and the ashes, she says me mum is upset. District nurse arrives Bernie from Central covering. Sound lady uses my new tielle plus absorbent dressing covered with tegaderm. This allows me to have a shower which is most welcome. We scoot to Tesco bit of a shop I retire early to the car with private eye. We pick up some cakes for the old ladies next door. They are made up, they have lots to tell me and Ally has to come and rescue me.
Bacon and mushroom sandwich for lunch - top stuff. Unfortunately some sot of east enders omnibus fest is on. A kip for me I think, followed by a visit from me mum.

Saturday Afternoon

A medicatory adjustement - tweaking the depakote allows me to settle and get a good kip - no suppositries required and wake feeling dazed and confused but definitely better for a good rest.
A bit of a lazy day for me - which is what I need. Deep Impact on the telly later after fish and a few chips for tea. Bowels settling, in fact their lack of activity is an issue. Doing a little research into google interfaces sad of course but you know what I am like.
Need to sort paperwork, letters etc but to be onest can't be bothered.

Searching the BlogSphere

Searching the BlogSphere Extremely interesting concept - though I realise how sad I am.

Saturday Morning - early nurse

Was up trying to resurrect the front page extensions on wlsinfo when the weekend nurse called. Wound continues to improve. Girls wake up appt to see Jenny dietitian in July. Just chilling round the house. Gonna sort through paperwork this afternoon. (after a sleep I think).

Ash cash for those who dont know - junior docs used to get a fee for signing crem forms and a percentage would go to the doctors mess. Every now and again we would have an ash cash party, on the proceeds.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I thought I better update you all with where things are up to. Firstly thanking you all for the cards, flowers, kind thoughts and prayers without which I wouldnt have got this far.
It all started 6/5/04 - I went to Starbucks for a coffee and within an hour had a belly ache.
I drove to another office - wanting a poo ( urgently) got there had a brief meeting (no poo) and drove home (stopped twice for fear of collapsing in pain).
Rang secretary to bring briefcase home and Jean to come home and help.
We rang Mr Kerrigans secretary for advice - thinking it may be RNY related. His advice was head for A+E at Aintree (not the nearest so calling an ambulance aint an option). One of my worst drives as a passenger ever to get there.
Got to A+E fainted with pain (good way to get a trolley). Then I got inside got inside got assessed got seen. Saw Mr K likely to be gallstones - sent to surgical assessment unit - this is thursday night betwen there and saturday is blurry.
Sore painkillers movin wards plenty of docs looking at me lots of tests. Saw Mr K Saturday and other Docs Saturday AM who decided things were different and I needed an op. A Mr Scaife assesed me and a nice guy consented me. He explained I needed to consent for a laparotomy +/- a stoma. This frightened me but I realised
I had few options.
I had an epidural fitted in the anaesthetic room to help with post op pain control - it took a long time and was fiddly but was worth it.
Mr Scaife operated and my first question on waking up - was did I have a colostomy. Nope.
Off to ITU tubed up central line, arterial line, epidural,IV's, NG tube, catheter two drains, and me disorientated and off my head. Jean came in that night. But the Saturday Sunday was an unpleasant blur. I had an obstruction due to adhesions from my appendicectomy when I was 21. Nowt to to do with my RNY. Which was quite a shock. I had 10inches of my bowel removed. It was necrosed and though they washed my guts well, I got a couple of infections.
So wounds - main one paralell to my RNY incision starting nearer my belly button but not quite as far at the top. then two incisions either side of that. Difficult to describe (especially for me as I cant see it).
Got transferred to care of Mr K and Sefton Suite. Seemed a bit of a haze. My mental health tablets were mixed up, I was toxic from wound infections and then I developed a chest infection (or some people called it pneumonia).
I wasn't well - I was hallucinating, scared, thought I was gonnna die, at times terrified and at other times spaced out.
Those who visited will testify to this - If I said anything offensive, or promised anything I apologise and claim toxicity.
Who do I remember Jean Ally Mum Mary Dave Maria Bea Tommy Alan Colin Hannah Cozzie Jack Mandy Teen Phil Frank Kim Janet Jonathon Mike Jane Mary Les Emma Shelly Leanne Ian JK Lots of doctors nurses physios lorraine louise billy plus probably many more.
My belly swolled up with fluid and I put on weight.
Then last monday I turned the corner started eating and feeling better. Didnt get diarrhoea (much , yet).
Saw dietitian a couple of times gotta get more in and scripts adjusted.
Weight on Sunday 15st 10lbs 100.4 kg thats down from 34st 216kg. But as its easy to say at this stage weight isnt everything
Gotta say I dont look at my best I am anaemic - I need a haircut I am weak and need a good rest. Which is my number one plan.
I wont be around here much but feel relaxed that the team have done a great job and will continue to do so. So apols for spelling and grammar and thanks for the prayers and best wishes.
Sorry for jobs I didnt do before I went off sick but Lisa will be in touch. Great to see people coming through ops and the site continue to go from strength to strength .
So keep the membership forms coming (Lisa will provide details) and watch out for exciting new developments.

Copied here for a bit of context.

So the Care Manager calls

She comes to call - a long way removed from the district nurse this Jeaneete is an expert in tissue viability. And the boy has confidence. She takes down the pads and has a good look. Cleans it all and has a prod. Still got three holes, which get packed with Kaltostat - sort of alginate based stuff. Jeanette thinks I may be anaemic. Some Aquacel for one of the other holes in my belly. She packs me up well and says she'll order a ruck of stuff and come back tomorrow.
Frank comes later he reviews meds, and prescribes a few new ones. Don't worry about the weight - 15st 10ib BMI29. summat which means I am just overweight. Funny I thought it would feel better about it.
Cricket in the afternoon and taking it easy. Eating and doing nowt - and I am still goosed. Ring the undertakers about Nannies ashes and hope to get em sprinkled soon. Too tired for much else.Watch nasser get a ton and England win the day. Good stuff. Nice chicken and ham with pasta meal. While the girls eat I mess with tagging and moving my MP3 files - how sad am I.
Ruth and Paul visit in the evening very pleasant.

Things aint right
I have a couple of weeks off and stuff on the web turns to mush.

Oneandone they are dunderheads. things have been crap for a while since I have come back from hospital things are just a joke.
We pay 19 pound a month for ms professional hosting. They introduced a new control panel a couple of weeks ago, which has knackerred everything. I aint impressed.
I shall be in touch me thinks.

Should have said

Got weighed at the hospital , Weight down to 15st 11lb, 100.4kg seems I have lost about 14kg in a week. Mostly I think through the fluid department. My face arms and ankles feel skeletal but the belly is nicely swollen.
Stuffing in as much as I can to counteract but given what I have been through I aint surprised. AInt a diet I would recommend to anyone at the mo. (The bowel resection, not the the Bariatrics).
I suppose part of today/this week needs to be sorting that story out - what was up with me and and what happened in Aintree.

Napster.co.ukThis was a good site a long time ago (if you know what I mean). Not sure I am strong enough to waste 9.99 a month and I aint telling my daughter.

WMP Mini-FAQ

WMP Mini-FAQAt last something sensible about windows media player and not surprisingly it isn't from MS. Nice work boy.

Channel 9

Channel 9 Big Bill gave it the thumbs up and whilst I aint into the techno stuff as much as I should it seems a prime example of how blogging can be a top tool.

Off to the hospital

After a quiet morning. Nadia and Joan sort me wounds out. Seems I have 3 or 4 interesting bits still in need of sorting. They pack it up considerably well. They make sure that it wont fall apart and send me on my way. Nice one. Come back drink milk and attack beard - bit scruffy. Lunchtime callls.

Sleep comes easy.

King size bed no plastic sheets top stuff. Only thing is I forget that it has another inhabitant and Jean scares the life out of me about 2 AM. I have several hot and cold spells, and need to pee several times. Get up about 7.30 and start watching Dr Who - My favorite doc i think but this This astounds.
So plans today - eat, go to Aintree for dressing, eat mum coming round. Wound still whiffs a bit to me - looking forward to getting the tissue viability nurses from the DN team on the job.

Home days are longer

Knackerred everything is an effort. And they dont have stairs in hospital. Goosed now and off to bed. Walked about 6 doors up the road before getting exhausted. Eat well and feel stuffed. Nowt on telly so we hit a DVD search ( the current Clare Famiily collection is in two binbags in the dining room since the telly upgrade. We decide on a crackin movie but I couldnt see the whole movie out. Soundtrack is tremendous too.

Homeward Bound

Got here and it feels odd - in a kinda just come back off yer hols type thing. Ally is away at a sleepover and Jean and I ease into a routine. I reflect on how hard the last few weeks must have been on her. I fall asleep after lunch and keep up the groove with a little and often diet. Not easy but hey someone has to do it. I miss the FA cup and most of the cricket. Read the newspaper and despair at the lack of TV potential. HMMMMMMM.

The joy of the blog

Pass a spell whilst waiting for Jean and Ally, remember the deep basic pleasure of the blog. Sheer self indulgence. Last night I filled my face with a dose of he always makes me smile.
seems to have forgotten both me and the test match though I may have to nudge him.
I enjoy the third days play courtesy of I enjoy the banter -oops there goes Butcher. RIchie Benaud is growing on me as strangely is radio 2. I am beginning to worry what they removed in my operation.Still the fact I am browsing at

Saturday morning

Well I plan to be released this am. Got weighed lost night wth Jenny the top dietitian. Down to 102. summat kilos. which is 16 stone. What is sursprising is that I have lost 10kilos since Monday. Fluid methinks. Need to eat more and build up on protein.Thats cool. Cricket has been a blessing at least I can fall asleep in between bits and look like l am doing summat. Should have been at Leicester today for some gig at BUPA and and feel like I have let them down but I think I am going to have to take things easy.
I strangely find myself looking forwad to the FA Cup final this PM and hope Millwalll beat Man U. The staff at Aintree have been great and have tolerated my, infection, toxicity, insanity, insecurity, and all my other bodily needs too. Good bunch - not sure that that chocs and flowers are the right wat to show gratitude.
Visited yesterday by Jon and th returning geography boy from the works.
Colin and Hannah called in too.
Good nights kip despite passing too much urine (stilll all in bottles this time).

Bank holiday

Its another way to confuse me by having consecutive sundays. Very confused. Bowels not right! Sorry dear reader but the gas is horrific. Monster portions and very noxious, I wonder if foul flatulence is a genuine reason to be off work. I suspect its as bad as the time I was sent home with a dumping attack caused by self inflicted gateau. Still even I think it stinks. I blog and mess about whilst Jean makes the annual nursery pilgrimage. I try to feel vaguely horticultural by moving stuff in the yard then attacking the patio weeds I had chemically attacked last week. Ally does not very much in the house jean returns having exchanged 53 quid for lots of green. Seems a good deal and john the nursery man always does a top deal. Then its chicken for lunch and eventually jean and I do a walk. Down to calderstones and right around its more than a mile but more than that I do not know. 7000 of my steps yup pedometer man is back. Works better when closed properly it seems. I have been offerea gig reviewing web sites for gastrointestinal nursing. Cool. An email to the editor and the jobs a good un. Nice walk around the park which takes in a 99. Good stuff. Then back home I start to write up the history of wlsinfo. After a page and a half the pc crashes not best pleased. I had just got up to an interesting bit as well. Some chicken tomato pasta thing which was pants for tea. My fault I picked it. And now this evening I find myself sat in the fiveways I have walked here. Two pints of cains blog then off. Have to say solitary drinking aint my bag but a blackberry and a bit of blogging top stuff. It sounds like it might be quiz night. I is offski. Bye sole reader.

Its a day off which is nice. I am determined to box a few jobs today. Jean is off to the garden centre place and bloggin, inbox and a bit of work are on my list.
So going back intime.

Friday. Wedding Anniversary 16 years.
Start the day dropping into the matchworks, then straight out to Speke Health centre. I am off to see Karen a school nurse with technology troubles. She tripped veronica the wink and I am released to problem solve. Karen works for North Liverpool PCT - I loked for a link but couldnt find one Google brings back Which points you to a 404 error she is based in a Glad to say number one in a south liverpool pct search site and needs to access systems in here - alder hey .com whats that about via systems based in here. Words like access and firewall scare me - heaven help the user. All she knows is she cant do her job and it is getting on her pip seems fair comment to me. Still the 14 months she has been going on about it sounds fair comment. I am relieved that I am able to find the SLPCT website through Google. Seems a fairly fundamental priciple to me. Anyway it isnt going to be easy. Also meet a lady who needs a larger mouse cursor. Interesting one I shall investigate. Then back to the works the off to Hammy. Brian needs to fiddle with my laptop to enable VPN access to NHS net ...nice. I make his day by informing him of the the upgrade of telewest to 3 megs- poor soul lives in a non telewest area. I do some useful liason stuff. Plus a walk to out to lunch (no website - yet) with Tony sad fella still reads the blog so better mention him (just joking mate). Some very drugged up chaps enter and scare the life out of me.I am sputtering from just the weed residue on their clothing. last time I felt like that was Bob Marley 1977 stafford. I score a prawn sandwich and its back to his office. I notice the library is shut for business and the entire worls seems tobe shutting down early for the holiday weekend.
Ally irritates by scooting off to her mates straight from school and causes a rethink of plans. Still nothing insurmountable - I pick her up drop her off and Tesco.
Score some flowers wine chocs (Gordon Ramsay - crap dont bother). Thought I liked him but dont.
Mickey and Jane top friends and off to the Patio. Lovely gaff - drinks and in for a meal thre types of each colour house wine - that impressed me.
So the order

Go to bed far too late.
