Sunday

Quiet day brisk walk to Somerfield, light shop but feel a bit faint. Jean comes to get me. Chill out at home and do a new photo Dont do much today then set up Jeans old laptop for ally Seems to be working well.

More BAFTA winners

So the day starts handy. Getting ready for the arrival of the production team from Granada factual. Doing a 12 parter for Discovery Health and Leisure. I am in a couple of bits potentially. So today is filming for a 7 minute slot in one of the early episodes. They arrive at 11.15 Manus the producer, Louise his assistant and Manus' mate. Manus is a top guy won a BAFTA for his work on Faking it. Never seen it, it arrived in a parcel with no padding and had broken. Louise had worked with Carol Vorderman on some home decorating stuff.
Had a brew at home then off to the gym for some shots of me exercising. Must admit it is more exerting than usual, and people dont wanna speak to me. Jean and Ally hang out in the restaurant and I join them afterwards. Mint and pea soup and prawns for me very cool. All courtesy of the budget. Then its of to the park for some shots of me and Jean. We are miked up to provide background "atmos" his words not mine. We then spend well over an hour at the Palm House our butts is frozen off. I then realise that manus took so long coz he was getting layered up. Jean and Ally go off and I go to town with the gang. Park in paradise stret then its a brisk dash to Castle Street outside the Town hall. See some bevved up lads dropping their kecks so decide to wait a while before some location shots of the liver builuding and then an interview about how I felt about running in the corporate cup. Freezing again. Noisiest location in Christendom and I have to stop several times to chisel the dew drop from me nose. We finish so me and Louise go into Starbucks Dale Street Store. There is a wireless hotspot The charges aint clear but 5.50 an hour seems steep to me. Manus and mate join us then home again. I learn a lot about Guiiness and Dublin on the way home. Then its 2 hours of questions and filming a long day but they seem happy. Chill and off to be. Realised walking round Palm house that Lent lasts longer than 40 days. Not the best news.

Headed from North PCT to 3TC

Via Switch island where a wagon had gone over made it in time and some sandwiches were left an all. Still an interesting meeting where many stuggled to stay awake, no names from me. Home and then off to Nannas for a happy birthday tea. I have fish and chips well 40% of a small fish and 10 chips but with some granary bread it is top stuff. We give nanna and sue her dog some chocs, and some money to buy a new alarm clock. Auntie Mary there and a good time is had by all. Off to bees for the Friday night pilgrimage home and early night, Jean in tidying frenzy.

Moodwise I feel good

I should have just pointed that out and also had a good nights kip. Thinks look fairly good, oh and I think its payday.

Friday up to the frozen north

Off to north PCT for a meeting with this gang. Much prefer the message thatwas left the other day that referred to em as Grassnet. Originally we werent going to get involved but in may offer a short term solution to improve things. Lets see hey. Sarah the rising star is there she impresses me immensely. I like fridays, especially when there is a blanket of snow and its me mums birthday. Deepjoy.

Thursday - things start to click into place

Good mornin at the matchworks with heaven sent Janet who sorts me with efficiency. Meal deal at Boots then off to The May Logan Centre. Another top bash with CSC. The presence of Bob leads to a lot more interest. But a vision seems to drop into place for me. They go on about granularity, information buses, information silos, and alsorts of othr jargon words. We have to stop thinking in systems terms. Integratioon engines that the way forward. I realise I already have my clinical system its Internet Exporer 6 just have a front end and let the boffins sort the back end. Gave Caroline a lift home and sorted out a few things in the car. Home and was gonna be a lasagne but a lae shift to a delicious tortellini and tomato sauce from Tesco. Generalised chilling in the evening with cut down computer input. Watched wire in the blood Enjoyable.

Wednesday - some time for me.

I woke up about 9.15 then chilled and headed for the gym at around 12. Did a great cardio sesssion managing 3k in about 30.30 . which is great OK I was down to 27.30 before I was depressed but this is about 3 mins better than ever. Chuffed. Then had a good weights session went well and enjoyed the shower after. Into the resturant for mushroom and spinach soup, sat with a guy called Norman nice interesting bloke. Had a chat with Turgid the restaurant manager then salim and one of the other cooks all splendid fellows. Then its off to Tesco for a mooch and and the purchasing of the raw ingredients for salmon and prawn pasta. Very nice. Lit a real fire which helps keep the biting wind away. At 7.40 think I would just be thinking about leaving Euston and I am convinced I did the right thing in not going. Kept computer usage down to a minimu and early night and a good sleep. Top banana.

Tuesday Delphi day

Be careful what you do because many years from now it may come back to meet you. Many years ago when I was a manager in mental health services I was "Senior User" on the team that procured a combined human resource payroll package called delphi millenium. It followed me to Maghull, then we lost contact and now it provides pay and HR for 6 trusts across liverpool and sefton 6000 staff. Its got a poop reputation but as usual its a good system without the infrastructure to support it. I am getting trained to use it. It all comes flooding back. Know I am at least partly involved in the management of delphi. But worrying that a search on delphi millenium didnt return anything in the first 10. Adding the makes name leads me here.I enjoy it but we need to decide what we are doing about it. The trainer Erica is sound and the other participant is a school health person which is interesting. Few big issues come up but we can sort them. The training room is in Belle Vale, the training room is managed by dave B who is a member of my team. Then its back to works via starbucks after lunch with Kim. I hit a panini. Its ok. The board meeting is on and I am busy busy busy. Then its off home and a quick tea of mince and pasta. In the bath I come to a major revelation, I am asking too much of myself and I need to slow down and adopt a different pace in relation to expecting me to cope with like going to London tomorrow. So its off. There you go I am gonna take someme time. Thats a good plan. Jean is chuffed. Support group goes well I do a testimonial type thing which goes do quite well - well I enjoy it.

Monday off to Speke

One meeting in the diary so its off to the works and catching up on the inbox. Irate singlehanded GP in Speke with system problems I listen and try too get to the bottom of it. Need to Speak to Rob P at EMIS. Back to the works having scored an excellent meal deal at Boots. Low fat and 2.49 and delicious. Top stuff. Clinical Governance steering group is cancelled but I have plenty to do.
Get home and its defrosted homemade chilli with tortilla. Which Ally and I made - delicious of course. Chill after the evening meal. Clare from Granada rings they want to do some filming on Friday. Shots at home in the gym etc cool with me. Then its on to the moderators online meeting. Watch the deputy which was a little dissapointing to be honest.

Loopy Boy is back

Pleased to see him blogging He was in a radio blackspot and couldnt blog least that what he claims. I wonder if Mrs Loopy told him to stop writing everything down in that damn diary.

I aint depressed - onest

Me mate Audrey emailed me to say I sounded a bit down in the blog. I had a read thro the last post and couldn't see why, though I suppose the sentence wake up wishing I hadnt I hadn't -nothing new there then was a worry. More about hangover and lazyitis than anything else. But Auds an Fi are great girls but I am feart of them. They describe themselves as the hairy burds in a song the sing to the the tune of the we are the cheeky girls. They are from Glasgow and I understand about 20% of ther spoken commmunication. The type in Scottish too. They are the biggest hearted people in the world, they are bandsters have a wiked sense of humour and a fearsome appetite for work on the site. The run a support group up there too. Auds shouts at me too much but I can live with that. We have the chat tonight and that goes well. And a message to Auds see that thing that says comments under this post. Its for comments try using it hahaha.

Sunday - Roll on Lent

Wake up wishing I hadn't - nothing new there then. The house is slow to rise. We lunch on the half price curry megadeals I scored yesterday. Good and tasty and real person food. After lunch we bizarrely trot to Ruth and Pauls where we left the car. Brisk and refreshing it cheers me up. Back and phone calls to make Jenfeet, Teen and Chris I am lousy at keeping in touch. Forget to pick my mother up ooops so its off in a hurry to get her.She aint on best form tired but has been the Docs. Her platelets are highter than mine. But she has dry kidneys (whatever that means) and asks me 6 times what it means. I guess its a high urea but who knows. "the thing in my blood that goes up when you have a heart attack is OK" eventually I deduce this is cholesterol. Mum claims this is due to her daily dose of cardio-protective banana. Apparently dad was advised this by a doctor years ago when he had low fertiliser in his blood (potassium I think) Ho hum. In a desperate attempt to go to the brink we drink again but not to last nights extreme. The Lenten promise, started a long time ago Mary my elder sister bet me a tenner I couldn't give up beer for Lent. She didn't really mean that she meant alcohol but I won the bet. I went in to a haze of draught cider and vodka chasers. Since then it has been a challenge taken up in different years. Didn't do it last year as I had already had 4 months of abstinence from too many pleasures/. I actually find it easier to give up then cut down. I am essentially a binary person. Logic dictates total abstinence but (big but) that is unthinkable. Which though it is plain daft the very thought of abstinence for ever makes me think of drink now.
Anyway the first test will come on Wednesday on the train on the weigh home. Trains mean tinned beer to me it is an association thing deeply ingrained. In the olden days it was mcewans export.

Saturday - 18 again

Not me but Jenis party tonight.- Got some copies of the North West Corporate Series Programme for 2004. Nice piece on page 4 runner kens triumph over obesity, made me smile and ally is fair chuffed they have published the picture she shot This one. Quiet morning then off to the gym, flagging on the treadmill then a nice irish lady turns up and I chat the last 17 minutes away. Off to franks (barbers) then somerfields. Then me and ally trot to ruth and pauls while jean drives down. Then a very pleasant evning at ruth and pauls for jennys birthday lager redwind, port punctuated by chilli and duck rolls. End up with a large Plymouthian gin which is a bad idea. End up drunk but as Lent approaches this is not unusual. Sobriety looms with alarming urgency.

Friday -

Postman arrives bearing National obesity forum goodies the conference is sorted top spers from the world of medicine sport and politics including .Keb Clare.
Also get a get a gig in the newsletter page 14 and pic on page 16
Jean off work and on antibiotics I attempt to pamper her slightly. Dont manage much I aint very good at it. Jean stays in bed till 12 and mooch about. Set off for Jayne Hardings leving night out at 4.30. What a turn out plenty there, all sorts of informatics/information people. Start off in Atrium then head to the Mathew Street Quarter Hmmmm feeling my age. A jolly good laff though if a tad noisy for this deaf old geezer. Hit edwards bar and then its off to flanagans apple. Sort of Irish theme pub full of Irish tourists. And my nephew Matthew or Mattie as he is knownto his friends. Arrived home by 10 a fairly decent hour. Good laff and when I left the place was getting very busy. I am not sure I like pubs with bouncers, nowhere to sit, lousy beer, loud music but what do I know.

Thursday Morning - yup I am holiday

But I end up in work at the 3TC centre for a meeting with people from our new contract providers CSC. I was singularly unimpressed that I made the effort to get there on time arrived there five minutes early and they had already started, still they have a lot todo. Interesting presentation by Annie from Isoft. Situation falling flat on its face then its rescued by a geezer in change management - I was impressed. Meeting ends having made some progress so its off to town to meet Jeni. Hannah, Colin Jean and Ally at the Casa Italia. Jeni is 18 to day so much celebration nice meal garlic bread and canneloni for me. Top stuff. Leisurely then home with Ally after taking a walk up mathew street. Relaxing evening at home which was nice.

Wednesday Afternoon

Sorting stuff round the hoose, having secured the ingredients for salmon and prawn pasta on the way home from Blood test. 40 minutes for a 40 secon blood test - the lady says I have good veins. My how times have changed. Go to cook the tea and discover the onion is rotten so off to the bottom of the road to th green grocers. Cook a delicious tea which we all appreciate.
After Terry turns up. Terry is going towrite a screenplay about this journey I think. Loosely based on it anyway. I wanted a chance for Jean and Ally to talk through their concerns with him turns out its a green light for the project. News of Ally Lees second baby comes over the airwaves later in the evening. Congrats.

Bloood test blues

Nearly a week after being told I am off to sir alfred jones for a blood test. Platelets sticky things that stop you bleedin to death. Take a ticket from a machine which is hidden and then sit ala tesco deli counter for your number to be called. One room shouts numbers one shouts names what can the difference be. The people who's names are shouted seem to have a limp or obvious problem. Where as the numbers gang are just far more anonymous. Aha the names are called into a triage room. Not many know that far from being a way of helping geezers triage was originally by napoleonic surgeons as a way of weighing who wasn't worth bothering with. We started 50 I drew 58 in 10 mins it 53 not cool. I don't queue well. Got a ruck of calls to make and the media have several obesity irons in my fire. These are BBC, channel 4, RDF, maverick and celador. They range from the serious documentary to well some of the proposals won't be starring this boy. A request to appear in an old pair of trousers is usually a poor quality indicator to me. Said he of the cardboard cut out ho hum.

Then its off to Cell good gig as ever and pastor nic turns up decent geezer.

Sunday bit of site flop

Get up and Ally head Somerfield way. Well Mr S megadeals have proven popular in this financially challengd climate. Who can forget his lean mince and skinless breasts successes. He has wised up to me and the other cheapos diving in and fishing out his lossleaders, he has introduced a scheme. A scheme so sinister it does not appear on there site. to partake of said megadeals you need to regisetr for saver scheme. No details of which appear on website yet. Anyway as a megadeals addict I sign on. They give you a card which like other loyalty cards youproduce at the checkout. And they have helpfully included two key fobs. As if I want a I am a megdeal saver superpov keyfob. In the past I have more money the sense tesco finest might have gone down well. Ah well. Bacon and egg for lunch and then inexplicably wlsinfo dies that aint big and it it aint clever. Dissillusioned members head for the lifeboat of the MSN chatroom a closed area, but open and configurable to the extreme. The dissillusionment continues as the 6pm chat starts. The biltz spirit helps then and people rally together the quality of the mix is good. cold collation for tea and well cool. Chat goes on long into the nignt and nowt reappears.

Saturday - gym whats that

I arise at a decent hour unlike the other occupants of this house. I chug away on emails and website stuff. Lasagne for lunch and then its off to the gym. Get weighed a whisker under 18 stone. Whys that - hmmm eating more and not exercising enough. Bit of a blow potentially but I take it in my stride. Got to Nanny Banks surreal time. Nannies legs are leaking slut (??slough) her roaminglomin is low. and her veins are standing out. Her legs are leaking big time. Go home via Somerfield a challenging time with mother in full vocal bloom. Oh dear.

Friday no five for me

Start the day via Hammy house into the works and lunch in the canteen area. Meet with the delightful Janet who has transformed my life within a week. We put the world to rights and then sort some business. Meet with Sarah who has a new job currently she works for the Strategic Health Authority but this new post will bring her into the LIS more. She is good and helps me sort loads out. Top meeting. Off home and relax. Ally off out to a disco and us oldies chill at home. Roux en Y chat goes well.

Thursday NPfIT hits the ground

First meeting with CSC our LSP at 3TC. I need an acronym guide at it aint started. I have to get up early ablute medicate etc and be on the road before 8.40. I manage it and make it up Queens drive to the Dock Road and into Crosby. Arrive in the nick of time its a three line whip and everyone wants to know the score. Acute care 1 primary care nil it seems. CSC send a man and two other geezers in attendance 0- one of whom was a change manager. (I keep all mine in a drawer in the kitchen). Does me. Midway through a magical transformation takes place in me - I regain my confidence - I realise I have a real valid and positive contribution to make. Good news. I stay behind and have a few butties. It finished early the guy we really needed didnt come. Still look on the bright side I'll have to come in next week for a rearranged meet in me hols deep joy. NPfIT dont respect half term.
Taking advantage of the early dart I scoot to Thornton to see some old friends. Thornton is a strange place in the middle of howhere the clinic was gonna close but it seems to have been improved and Muriel the Boss looks well. Dave Wadd the continence king is there too. Then I'm off to Hammy House for a meet with Janet - Big stuff round data quality. Wander home via the library cool dudes but they need some bubble wrap. Pop into Somerfiled and bump into Mark Kelly ex of Sefton General also Frank Brailsford also of that Parish now retired. I get into discover I floooded the bathroom by turning on the shower instead of turning off the light the girls aint best pleased.
Then chill with a piece of toast before picking up Billy from the cell. We have been paired up and have to go off and get to know each other better. Billy and I are off for a curry. Masterchef is the venue of choice Omar the maitre d' does a double take but recognises me. Billy is sound a christian for 10 years and a real inspiration. It gives me a chance to ask really stupid questions about cell and frontline in a safe environment. All of the answers are cool but I may struggle with the churchs stance on homosexuality. An excellent night and home.

Wednesday night

At home rare quiet night this week so take full advantage.

Sunday

Tired and sleepy. I have to get up early to assault a chicken with a lemon onion and streaky bacon. Pork was done last night. Alan has cried off due to work but still 6 of us sitting down and Alan on a carry out. Goes well as ever Jean has to nip out for some essentials. Ally dissapears midway thro lunch and we chill in the front room. After lunch have an interesting discussion about options for Ally with Paul. See that being a fun discussion when it comes. - not.
Wind has blown down two fence panels - so Jean and I repair to to the garden to make the conifer more safe. They dissapear off to Chuch I enjoy the essential Time Team followed by a general WLSINFO chat. I guess we should have pointed out that WLSINFO has been granted Stakeholder status for

Saturday Night Fever is finger lickin good

Goes well all told. A success if a little noisy.

Friday

The morning is a bit of a bit of a damp squib all seems about getting ready for a the funeral its being held Here. Its a lovely historic church and has to be seen to be believed. Ally has been off school to go to the orthodontist. Ally Hannah and Lizzie sit together and we join Lizzies mum and dad Paula and Ian. The church is full and Brian was obviously a popular and respected guy. A Christians funeral is always a more hopeful one than someone who doesnt have a belief. It still hurts and the grief is real but there is a "sure and certain hope" flavour that helps. It hurts to see Ally so upset and the untimely death of someone so young (47) is deeply shocking. Ones own mortality was brought home with a vengeance. Positive thoughts and prayers go to Heather, Hannah and Mark. After the Church we go home then off to Woolton Hall in Speke Road. We sat with Paula, Ian and Lesley, a crackin spread and free bar was provided. We had a good night and recounted tales of Brian and dreadful dance shows and schoool plays we had endured. Off home and then hosting a Roux-en-Y chat. Its a busy life innit.

Thursday sees me in town

Postie brings an interesting one today. An invite to a bash in London Nursing Standard have a new campaign called Nursing the future which is about the image of nursing, they have invited to a reception at Westminster to launch it. Seems like a cool bash to me and a must from a networking and pressing the flesh point of view. It is being hosted by Laura Moffat at this gaff which is part of the westminster complex. Seems a cool swoop to me. Jean is gutted but made up at the same time.
Off to Hammy House and its the library, via Fran then off to a meet with John Y to sort out Information governance. Then its a solitary lunch at Greenbank sweet potato soup and then back to the works.
The evening sees a meet at Jacks house he is the cell leader, cool dude and helps me put a lot in perspective. Not surprisingly Brians funeral tomorrow is heavy on my heart. Ally seems almost too cool about things and I arrive in to \jean and Paula in full powwow mode. Mothers up the pole not cool.

Wednesday bad boy not been blogging

Looking back on the blackberries calender trying to see what I have done. Last night was cell group and a bit of heated debate aroud Galatians. Wednesday sees an early start up to Childwall Park Avenue, alledgedly with the team brief but it aint been done yet so what the hell. It was Gail the PR persons birthday yesterday so lets make allowances, she reports later she was waiting on someone else. I use the chance to update the team. Then its back to the works and lunch is a trip to aintree to pick a parcel up with kim and then tesco old swan for a butty. Call in at tesco allerton for some provisions on the way home.
Chill in the evening.

Sunday

Was tired first surfaced and went back to bed. Allys friend Hannahs Dad Brian died this morning. He had been ill for a while and its no surprise. Still his premature loss at 47 seems so unfair. Two years ago you would have put mone on me dying first. It is all quite sobering and knocks us all for six. Girls go off to Church.

Sunday, February 01, 2004

Saturday is party day.

The whole day starts at 10.30 off with JK to the sefton suite at Aintree to see Den who had a DS on Wednesday. His story is interesting and reminded me of how much of life seems to be things that just fall in together in the right way. He rang TOAST for some info about surgery. The woman he spoke to their had met me at the NOF conference had spoken to me and suggested he joined the site. he joined I spoke to him him on the phone the rest is history. What a top guy and talking to hi makes me realise why I do WLSINFO. Top stuff. Real getting back intouch sort of stuff.
Come home chill then its off to the doo at 7. 30 meet Ray and Wally ex cooks from Sefton General top lads.Buffet A for 80 3 pound ahead and people arrive early. Usually at 8.45 I am worrying no one is there but this time the place is hummin by then its great I am overwhelmed.
